Tweaking the Morning Routine

New Years resolution goal #2:  Wake up 30 minutes earlier in the morning.

After feeding and watering the cats  I like to do an hour of sitting practice first thing in the morning.  The routine I’ve followed for the past few months allows for that and nothing else.  As soon as as the hour is over it’s time to fire up the laptop and start work.

Searching for a more leisurely pace to begin the day with more space before getting down to work, I’ve been slowly adjusting my waking time by five minutes every two weeks.  Currently I’m halfway to my goal (yes, I started in December) and already enjoy the benefits of not feeling rushed first thing in the morning.  In case you were wondering, I am also going to bed earlier to continue getting a full eight hours of sleep.

A morning routine sets the tone for the entire day.  Taking time in the morning to treat oneself to simple pleasures can help make the rest of the day a much more relaxed and pleasant experience.
